(1) How
did you first start in the business ?
I first started to do the lights at my school when I was 11 and I
guess it went from there!! I did my work experience for a couple of
weeks with “Stars In Their Eyes” for Vari*Lite and I was hooked from
then on in…
(2) What attracted you to it ?
I guess I did not want to be appearing on the stage so I took up
technical as I could at least still be involved with the show
(3) What, when, where was your first
professional LD show and what did it involve kit wise ?
It was a theatre show when I was 16, using a purely generic rig and
a old strand theatre desk! How things have now changed!
(4) When did you start using Avo products ?
I started using Avo product since I was about 16, I was introduced
to the Pearl first. The first show I remember doing was a rave up in
Scotland with a load of Martin MAC moving lights. What a laugh that
was….
(5) What’s your most
challenging/demanding/enjoyable lighting project to date - and why ?
Singapore National Day back in 2006 was a good challenge. I have
never done a show of that size or duration before. I think the most
‘enjoyable’ would have been Radio One’s big weekend out in Derry …..
those people know how to party!
(6) What do you like best about your work?
Everyday is a new challenge. You never get bored and if you do there
is always something fresh to have a go at.
(7) What were the last 2 albums you
downloaded or bought ?
Newton Faulkner, and Kanye West, Graduation.
(8) Who would you most like to see live ?
Queen
(9) Which artist/what event would you most
like to light ?
I would love to do a Jean-Michele Jarre show.
(10) What advice would you would give to an
aspiring young Neil Trenell ?
Live life to the full and never take no for an answer. Do your best
for everyone no matter how small or large ….. You just never know
where it might take you….
