(1) How did you first start in the business
?
Picking up projectors and messing with them for a local
band called Click-Click in Luton before being taken under the wing
of Bauhaus LD Graham Bentley and shown the wonders of the road by
him and “Reasonable” Ray.
(2) What attracted you to it ?
Initially, the music and the freedom
(3) What, when, where was your first
professional LD show and what did it involve kit wise ?
My first real job on my own after flying the nest from Graham was –
ironically – with the Bauhaus boys in their new guise as Love and
Rockets. The gear all came from Delicate in California and was a
generic rig of PARS, Lekos and loads of floor cans and strobes. A
small amount of opti 250s as beam projection were involved, I seem
to remember.
(4) When did you start using Avo products?
The first time I used Avo desks was about 1986 … and the desk was
huge, can’t remember the model. I used to operate from side of stage
as that’s what Graham did. . . . I just thought that’s what you did!
(5) What’s your most
challenging/demanding/enjoyable lighting project to date - and why ?
I find that whichever jobs you are currently doing are the most
challenging / enjoyable. Then when finished - move on to the next
challenge.
(6) What do you like best about your work?
Without a doubt the best thing about doing this for so long is the
people I have met. I’ve always said that I wouldn’t ever regret
taking this path or I wouldn’t have met some of the amazing people I
have had the pleasure of working and playing alongside. The
production and artistic side of this business is full of wonderful
people.
(7) What were the last 2 albums you
downloaded or bought ?
The Kooks for programming and The Clash for fun.
(8) Who would you most like to see live?
You kind of get to see everyone really at the festivals . I would
have loved to see the Clash again and taken my son Perry, thankfully
he’s a fan now.
(9) Which artist/what event would you most
like to light ?
Bowie singing before Luton play in The Cup Final.
(10) What advice would you would give to an
aspiring young ‘Luton Pete’?
Look, listen and learn, and watch your back!!!
“One World, One Love!!”
