AVO: How
did you first start in the business?
Darren: As a kid I had a thing about lights.
I was always wiring things up, car spot lamps, batteries, torches,
Christmas tree lights, I used to strip lights out of any old
electrical equipment and wire them up!! (Under strict supervision
from my dad of course who had trained as an electrician).
This is all well before I had even heard of a PAR can.
At some point, age 12 I ended up on stage treading the boards of
course I spent the whole time looking up at the lights!!
AVO: What attracted you to it?
Darren: The lights?
AVO: What, when, where was your first
professional LD show and
what did it involve kit wise?
Darren: Somewhere in the early 90s, Boys To Men, Kensington rooftop
gardens with a few Golden scans, profiles and a desk that I cant
mention, which crashed and died on the gig!!!!
So I called Avo who saved my arse by sending me a Pearl complete
with an operator!
AVO: Whats your most
challenging/demanding/enjoyable lighting
project to date - and why?
Darren: Challenging - Lighting a 7 story M&S building in Fenchurch
Street London.
(The pictures of this looked so cool that we used them on the cover
of the Avo full brochure and our showreel video Steve Warren Avo
Sales).
Why Because there was nowhere to place any fixtures and the job
required wireless DMX which was rare at the time, but we did it!
Demanding too many to mention.
Enjoyable UK lingerie awards.
Why er, well
figure it out!!!
AVO: What do you like best about your work?
Darren: The challenge, the people, the results.
AVO: What were the last 2 albums you
downloaded or bought?
Darren: BT Movements in Still Life.
Dire Straights - Alchemy Live.
AVO: Who would you most like to see live?
Darren: Arctic Monkeys.
AVO: Which artist/what event would you most
like to light?
Darren: I always wanted to do Glastonbury which I did last year;
does this mean I have peaked?
AVO: What advice would you would give to an
aspiring young Darren Parker?
Darren: Be passionate and be patient.
