Pearl Expert and Wing at University of St Andrews RAG 2010

Back Up Next
Here at Avolites we are all for education, especially on a social level. When we heard one of our very own Software gurus, Greg Haynes, was going to be appearing at University of St Andrews in Fife - along with the Pearl Expert and Touch Wing; we just had to find out what it was all about.

The annual week of Raising and Giving (RAG) is run by a body of volunteer students. Greg was among various members of the entertainment crew to help director of events and services, Phil Pass, produce an outstanding array of entertaining evenings.
The long list of fixtures ran from the Pearl Expert and Wing included 4 x Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300, 4 x Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300, 4 x High End Technobeam I, 2 x Clay Paky Alpha Wash 300, 1 x High End Studio Color 575, 2 x Terbly V1200T-ER, 2 x Terbly OV108A-R, 2 x Coemar Pro Wash 250 LX, 2 x Terbly RGBW LED Parcans, 16 x Generic RGB LED bar fixtures, plus 40 or so dimmers for Parcans, Fresnels and source 4s. Greg explained that he relied on the Power Cube to supplement the existing dimmer and power distribution, providing hard power for movers, controlling dimmers and converting Art-Net from the console to DMX to pass onto the venue dimmer racks.
Needless to say, the week long event was a success; it kicked off with a Toga loving fancy dress party followed by Saints and Sinners Casino night, Bingo and the legendary Mr. St Andrews night – an event filled with the hottest men, whipped cream, purple boxers and sexy on stage volunteers. Among other events there was even a silent rave, where hard core ravers bopped to their own tune while donning headphones, neon paint and glow sticks. Pretty much the equivalent to lots of fun, run by students for students and all for charity.
Notes:-
University Rag societies are student-run charitable fundraising organisations that are widespread in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Most universities in the UK and Ireland have a Rag. In some universities Rags are known as Charities Campaigns, Charity Appeals, Charity Kommittees, or Karnivals, but they all share many of the same attributes.
