Mumford and Sons UK Tour

Back Up Next
Since the four lads from West London formed in late 2007, Mumford and Sons are now considered hot property. Loved for their English Indie folk tunes, the stage at Shepherd’s Bush Empire found them to be humble and, dare I say, emotional on home turf. Ed Warren of Next Level Lights told us a bit more about touring with the band as he took over the controls of the Empire’s in-house, Diamond 4 Elite.

With shows that vary in capacity (900 - 2300), Ed had to ensure the touring lights (usually controlled by a Tiger) could carry the show on their own, as well as successfully combine with the house rigs which could range from many various fixtures to 6 theatre fresnels.
Ed stated: ‘I've worked with Mumfords from day 1 and the shows are getting bigger all the time, but without losing the intimacy of their earlier shows. This particular show drew it’s inspiration from a warm and traditional feeling so I specified plenty of incandescent bulb fixtures such as sunstrips, moles and festoons’. He goes on to say, ‘I wanted to take more sunstrips and moles, but trailer space was an issue as we are also carrying FOH and Monitor desks. So I stripped it without it compromising my original vision’. Warren’s vision maintained true to form to that of a foot-stomping hoe down and all-in-all the folk quartet’s home-coming gig was electric. Ed has a great rapport with them ‘The guys have always trusted me and let me get on with it. If they do have any ideas or pointers it’s always in the right direction.
Many LD’s these days are without the luxury of Dimmer technicians on site and on the night; an inevitable result of budget cuts. For Ed though, he’s always found the local crew to be more than willing to help even if sometimes it may mean it takes a little longer to get the end result.
For most shows Ed has been using a Tiger and comments that it’s ‘Just the right size for the amount of gear I'm touring with. I've been using the house desk to control the house lights, so once the Tiger was patched and programmed and I was happy with it, it only meant a few minor adjustments every day.’

Notes:
Since they formed in December 2007, the members of Mumford & Sons aim is to make music that matters, without taking themselves too seriously. The four friends, Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane were playing various instruments in bands within London. They were united to perform impromptu renditions of Marcus’ earliest attempts at song-writing in front of crowds of friends in the capital. They bonded over their love of country, bluegrass and folk, and decided to make music together. They are produced by Markus Dravs who recorded Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, Björk's Homogenic and The Maccabees’ Wall of Arms.
