Nick Jevons on Avolites Diamond 4 Console
|
Singapore: The Esplanade’s 5th annual Mosaic
Music Festival saw a record breaking crowd of 120,000 rocking at the Esplanade
from 13th to 22nd March 2009. This annual music festival featured talented
international and regional musicians to give Singapore audiences a continuous
10-day music experience spanning diverse genres from jazz and blues to hip-hop
and world music. This increasingly popular festival works to complement the
on-going series so music fans always have performances to look forward to
throughout the year, and has grown into one of Singapore’s biggest music
festivals.
Throughout the 10 days, performances were on-going at various stages including
the main concert hall which was graced by many world renowned artists such as
“Naturally 7”, “Soul & Pimp Session”, “Indigo Girls”, “N.E.R.D.” and the soulful
voice of “Brian McKnight”. The Avolites Diamond 4 console was again the
preferred choice in the main concert hall thanks to UK based Nick Jevons. Nick
was brought onboard again as the main lighting designer for the 3rd year running
at the Mosaic Music Festival. |

It was during a short break in between acts that
Entertainment Technology
managed to catch up with Nick for a quick interview at the Esplanade.
ET: Good evening Nick, welcome again to Singapore. How does it feel to be back
at the Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore for the 3rd year running?
Nick: It feels wonderful to be back in Singapore
and to be involved with the Mosaic Music Festival again. I love coming here and
I really enjoy working in the Esplanade concert hall. I know the space so well
now that I feel I can get the best out of it. I have a great working
relationship the organizers and the technical staff.
ET:
Is it true that you had various brands of lighting
consoles to choose from for the festival but you chose Avolites?
Nick: Yes…. I was offered the choice to pick from
several well known consoles brands made available for the festival but I decided
on AVO.
ET: Why do you prefer the
Avolites consoles?
Nick: There are so many different types of
performers thus I need a console which allows me the flexibility to be able to
accommodate the various music styles. I would not attempt to do an event of such
importance without the Diamond 4 console. The D4 offers ‘hands on, total
control’ and as the designer for the festival I need to have total confidence in
my console. I have worked with Avolites for 20 years now and they have never let
me down!
ET: Have you any memorable
moments during this year’s Mosaic Music Festival?
Nick: They all had their individual moments.
Overall the Mosaic Music Festival did it again in delivering a unique diverse
musical range.
ET: Any personal comments
about the festival that you wish to add?
Nick: It was great seeing & working with Milton
(Lighting Technical Manager) and his team at the Esplanade again. I hope that I
am involved with the festival for many more years to come! I also wish to add my
compliments to the team from Total Solution who were the local distributors for
Avolites. These guys took turns during the festival to visit me and put out
extra effort to make sure I had everything I needed for the festival. Its no
wonder Total Solution is Milton’s favorite lighting supplier in town. |
