![]() Ian Brown LD Fletch with Avo Pearl Expert & Tiger |
|
| The first Pearl Tiger console on
tour in the UK was put through its paces on the road by Colour Sound
Experiment's Dave "Fletch" Fletcher, lighting designer for Ian Brown's "The
World Is Yours" tour. The console is being run with a wing, and has proved "totally reliable" reports Fletch. He’s been using the Tiger Wing for all his specials and any lights that he uses regularly during the show – so they are right to hand. "It's a great desk and an excellent version of a Pearl which is small enough to take as carry-on baggage on the plane – very handy at times" he enthuses. He’s also certain that he’ll be doing just this when it comes to Brown’s forthcoming European and South East Asian shows in early 2008. He also utilized a Pearl Expert on the tour. Fletch has been using Avo consoles for the last 10 years and is a big fan. Apart from the fact they really suit his operational style, Avo was ideal for Ian Brown because of the very spontaneous nature of the performance. "It really needs to be a totally buskable desk for Ian" he says .... "So the Avo platform is perfect, you can just grab whatever lights you need to right there and then". |

| The Ian Brown rig was
asymmetrical, consisting of a front truss and two back trusses (higher and
lower). He incorporated JTE PixelLines into the rig for the first time, plus a few other elements of technology that weren't available for the last outing 2 years ago. The 18 PixelLine battens were arranged as 6 on the floor and 6 on each of the two back trusses. The moving lights were Robe 700s - 20 ColorSpot 700E ATs on the front, back and floor and 18 ColorWash 700E ATs also dotted around the stage. He's found these to be good, reliable and extremely bright, especially in the larger arenas and venues. |

| He also used four bars of Studio
Due CS4 moving ACLs - two on the floor and two on the lower back truss. Key lighting was achieved using 8 Source Four profiles rigged on the front truss, which also housed four 8-lites. Along with six 2-lites on each of the back trusses, plus a large mirror ball! All these fixtures were run off the combination of the Pearl Tiger and the Pearl Expert. Ian Brown generally is quite shy when it comes to being lit, explains Fletch, often preferring to skulk in the dark, finding the patches and pools of light when he wants to. Fletch often runs two desks on his shows as that's the way he's grown up running lights and is used to working. With Ian Brown's average audience’s enthusiastic propensity for beer-lobbing around the venue - in appreciation - there is always a good solid practical reason for having 2 consoles on the tour! The Expert dealt with a lot of the moving lights and 4 Atomic strobes on the front truss, while the Tiger ran the 6 ColorWash's used for the front wash, the PixelLines, the CS4s and all the generics. The rig also featured a 48-way Avolites dimmer and two DMX buffers. The lighting rider - for when they combine specials and backline with the house lighting and sound - specifies that a Pearl must be integral to any 'house rig' system, "Then I know if I am really pushed I can programme a show of some sort in half an hour using the Expert" he says with confidence. |
