 An Avolites Pearl 2008 console has been installed into the City Life Church’s Knox campus in Melbourne, Australia. City Life is a non denominational Pentecostal church and the largest church in Melbourne. It has a congregation of approximately 7,500 – and growing - 5000 of whom attend regular weekly services at the 1850 capacity main auditorium in Knox. In addition to the services, a host of other events are staged at the Knox venue, including weddings, funerals, youth events and local school theatre productions. The main auditorium is utilised every day for a wide variety of performances, featuring anything from a single preacher to full choirs, orchestras and electric or acoustic bands. The Church’s lighting director James Fielding specified the Pearl to control his new moving light rig which was part of a technical upgrade – consisting of 4 Robe ColorSpot 575 ATs along with four ColorWash 575 ATs which are hung above the stage plus a Robe Haze 400 FT hazer. |

| The Pearl is also controlling a 24 channel
wall of cyc lights, 8 Multi-PARS, 8 floor cans and 30 fresnel fixtures. Previous to the new installation, they were regularly hiring in moving lights and consoles for their larger events and functions, so it made good financial as well as creative sense to make the investment . The Church also broadcasts to over 30 countries around the world on Christian TV, and in addition to catering for good TV lighting, Fielding wanted to make the space as flexible and dynamic as possible with the upgrade. He knew he wanted an easy-to-programme console that was also powerful and capable of doing complex programming as well as fitting the budget. He explained that many volunteers work on the shows with no industry experience, so along with all the other considerations, a desk that could simply be “switched on and run” for a weekend celebration was essential  The Pearl’s reputation as one of the most popular lighting consoles in the world also aided his decision. The Pearl and the Robe lights were all supplied via Powa Audio by Avo’s Australian distributor ULA. Having the console and moving lights has made a massive difference to the level of production values that City Life can offer for all its events “There’s just so much more scope for being interesting” enthuses Fielding.  |
