Avo in Control of Autosport International 2008

Back Up Next
Lighting designer/programmer Josh Williams used an Avolites Diamond 4 console to control 150 Moving lights, over 250 generics and a digital media server in the Live Arena at the 2008 Autosport International exhibition.

The event was staged at Birmingham NEC in the UK. The Live Arena took over all of Hall 5 – the NEC’s largest space – and featured 6 shows a day over 2 days of live hot-rodded vehicular action, screeching tyres and burning rubber on a mission to showcase the very latest and coolest performance cars. Each show was attended by an audience of 4,500 people.

Lighting, sound and video equipment was supplied by Network Productions for the fifth consecutive year. The design was a combined creative effort by Williams and Network’s
Nick Halliday.
The D4 is currently Williams console of choice. He states, “It’s absolutely essential to have a console offering quick programming and instant access to everything you need for a show like this, where things are constantly changing from one show to the next – and there’s only 30 minute changeovers between each one”.

The lighting fixtures included 250 PARs, 80 Robe ColorWash 1200 E ATs, 12 Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs, 50 Robe ColorSpot 575E ATs and 28 Robe ColorWash 575AT Zooms, 2 Griven Flowerglobes and 6 2K fresnels plus hazers. Network productions also supplied over 450 metres of trussing

The Robe Media Fusion digital media server was running content for a wall of 20 StaqeQube 324 LT video panels that formed a floor level backdrop for presenters Louise Goodman and
John Hindhaugh.
The get in schedule was particularly tight. It left Williams only an hour before the first press show to programme the basic building blocks into the desk, a task the D4 helped him achieve with confidence.

Coming from the theatrical background, he was introduced to Avolites early in his lighting career, and it’s now one of his favourite brands. Network Audio own an Azure in addition to their D4, and both consoles are constantly working on a variety of live music shows and festivals, concerts, corporate and industrial events.
