| Lighting designer Dave Parry – recent new
addition to the Avolites team – programmed and operated a Pearl 2004 Lighting
console and lighting for the recent Greenpeace “No To Trident” protest event.
This was staged aboard Greenpeace’s “Artic Sunrise” ship, docked on the river
Thames by Tower Bridge in central London. Avolites was contacted by video artists UVA who supplied an LED video screen for the same event, a peaceful demonstration against renewing Trident and Britain possessing nuclear weapons, which featured the 50 strong Sense of Sound choir.
Parry illuminated the stage with 12 LED battens, 8 Clay Paky AlphaWash 1200 moving lights and a selection of PARs – supplied by PSL - all of which he controlled with the Pearl. “This was the Pearl in its absolute element” he explains, “We had very little set up or programming time, so spontaneity was the order of the day – and the whole show was effectively busked – which is so easy to do using this console”. The protest took place a week ahead of the crucial House of
Commons vote on the government’s Trident renewal plan, designed to encourage
people to examine the issues at stake. |
