Production Services Goes Diamond

Back Up Next

Belfast (Northern Ireland) based Production Services, run by Brian Riley has just invested in a new Diamond 4 Vision console and an Avolites Pilot.

The busy rental and production company provides lighting and sound kit for a myriad of its own productions as well as servicing numerous dry hires. Production Services is active across all markets – rock ‘n’ roll, corporate events, conferences and all types of live performance.

Project Manager Sean Pagel has worked with the company for the last 2 years, and recommended that they bought the Diamond 4 as he “knew we’d get lots of work with it”.

There is currently only one other D4 in Ireland - in Dublin in the South - and Production Services currently have the only D4 Vision in NI and the Republic.

Pagel became an Avolites fan whilst at Belfast Waterfront Hall, where he worked for 9 years before joining Riley at Production Services two years ago. The venue has a Diamond 3 which is still going strong.

“Reliability and user-friendliness are two major things about Avo consoles” he says “I like the fact that you have everything right at your fingertips on the desk and that you can pull together a really good show in a very short time - when needed - as it’s so quick to programme.”

He adds that the assignability of the menus in the desk means that the operator can have multiple pages of fixtures and palettes right there at their fingertips.

As soon as the D4 was delivered it went straight into action. The first show was a large Christian festival at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena (lighting designed by Pagel and Chris Tomlin) and it’s also been on shows at the Kings Hall including Machine Head, Killswitch Engage and Chimera. Additionally it’s been deployed for several awards shows, and for a DVD shoot for Kingsway Records at the Riverside Theatre in Coleraine.

For the recent Belfast Festival it was utilised as the house desk at the Grand Opera House, operated by a variety of different Production Services crew.

The Pilot is being used for “Sleeping Beauty”, this year’s Waterfront Halls pantomime, where the show has been programmed on the D4 and swapped to the Pilot for its 7 week run.

Production Services has also just bought 6 ART 2000 dimmer racks.

“They are the industry standard dimmer, completely robust and one of the most rock solid and best respected pieces of kit on the market” affirms Pagel.
