I wanted a small but capable desk to help control any DMX instruments and Steve Warren and his team couldn't have been more supportive. Although I arrived late in the afternoon preceding the final PLASA get-in day when the whole lighting industry is in frantic turmoil, their patience in tutoring me to do simple things on their Avolites Azure Shadow proved inexhaustible. I was provided with a lovely graphics tablet (as well as a monitor) to make controlling the new Pulsar Chromabank, and a Mini-Mac, even more expressive. I even got a sneak preview of their flagship Diamond 4 and was delighted to find its displays all very clear at any angle and under any lighting which is an important consideration to an old duffer like me. The Avolites goody bags were all eagerly collected by visitors long before the end of the show. Because Strand Lighting had to withdraw from IBC, the Azure was the only DMX desk to join those of ADB and ETC at IBC this year. Television Lighting is the journal of the Society of Television Lighting Directors and is published three times a year in February, June and October.
