Lighting designer Damian Courage recently lit a high profile charity gala performance in aid of The Princes Trust, held in the picturesque grounds of Windlesham house school in Surrey. Over 2,000 people attended the show which was called Time .... |
Featuring music from past and present - from Gregorian to drum 'n' bass - the specially devised piece was conceived, written and musically directed by Anthony Hutchings. Production manager was Richard Hawkins from Laser Grafix who also provided a laser system for the occasion. Sound and lighting equipment was supplied by HSL Productions Ltd and FOH sound was by Andy Barnett. |
Damian has long been a fan of Avolites and has been using Avo desks to create and control his show for the last five years. For this one, he used a Sapphire 2000 and an ART 2000 48-way dimming system. |
Fixtures controlled by the desk included 14 Martin MAC 600s, 18 Mac 500s, 18 Par 64s, ACLs, Studio Due City Colours, and a selection of Strand theatre lanterns. |
The get in was on the Thursday night for a Sunday show, leaving two intense nights of programming. However Damian was well on the case with his Sapphire - a desk he knows and loves - and had the bulk of cues in the desk by Saturday
morning. |

Damian comments "The beauty of any Avolites desk is its ability to create a show quickly and easily. It makes the whole ordeal of plotting a show very simple! The new Sapphire 2000 is great. Access to the preset focuses and shape generator through the new palette dispenses with scrolling through menus and lists to get where you need to be. Another great feature is the capacity-to-weight ratio - four hundred fixtures as an easy 2 person lift!!!" |
