Fabric exteriorThe last 12 months has seen a massive increase in sales of Avolites consoles for the club market. The Azure 2000, the Azure 2000 Shadow and the Pearl 2000 in particular have all become 'preferred consoles' at some of the country's IT nocturnal dancing destinations.

At Fabric, the charismatic, cool, subterranean interlocking arches in Smithfield, the heart of historic London, technical consultant Dave Parry specified two Azure 2000 Shadows.

These were installed by Dublin-based Audio-Tek, sound and lighting contractors for the project, headed up by the colourful Frank Murray, and by Dave's own company the Most Technical Partnership. Parry chose the Azure Shadows - for the club's main and second rooms - to control a mixture of fixtures including High End Technobeams and Trackspots, Martin MACs and PARs. He picked the consoles because he needed "A small, reliable, top quality lighting desk with flash buttons". He also wanted a console that was easy to use but had plenty of programming power - one of the reasons Avolites are doing so well in this market.

Further down the groove lines in Leicester Square, the high tech, modernist designed superclub Home is part of the rapidly expanding Big Beat International Empire. Lighting at Home was specified by Technical manager Andy Kayll - who previously worked at Cream. He chose two Pearls and an Azure 2000, placed in different rooms throughout Home's five floors. All consoles are controlling MAC moving lights and a selection of generics. Stuart 'Woody' Wood, one of the operators for Home's main auditorium dancefloor says, "I love the Pearl for it's improvisational capabilities. This is a 'proper' lighting desk and it's in a 'proper' environment".
Avo consoles have also been installed in plenty of other high profile clubs over the last 12 months. These include Media in Nottingham, Area in Watford, Matrix in Reading and Scala in London's Kings Cross. Many of these venues offer live performances as well as their regular and guest DJs, and all of them realise that lighting and its control is a key element in creating the right environment for a good night out.
