Avolites Supports The Welsh College Of Music And Drama At PLASA
For the first time in its 50 year history, the Welsh College of Music and Drama will be at PLASA - on the Avolites stand, C4.
This has been possible due to a generous offer from Avolites for the College to have a presence on the stand.
Avolites is keen to actively encourage future generations of performance and production industry professionals. The
company sees colleges and universities offering industry-related courses as an important-breeding ground for those who will be tomorrow's LDs, programmers and technicians.
The Welsh College of Music and Drama, based in central Cardiff, is the national conservatoire for Wales.
The college offers a range of specialist undergraduate and postgraduate courses in music and drama - all of which are practically orientated. College students produce over 300 performances a year in Wales, the UK beyond.
The College runs two stage management and technical theatre courses - a three year BA (Hons) in Stage Management and a one year Advanced Diploma in Stage Management.
Both courses are designed to cover all aspects of stage management and technical theatre training and ensuring students are properly equipped to work in an increasingly diverse industry.
The employment rate amongst graduates is high. Currently ex-students are working for the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, the Theatre Royal in Bath, the Perth Theatre in Scotland, at the Old Vic, London and for the Welsh National Opera. The latter is also based in Cardiff, and responsible for some of the UK's most renowned operatic productions.
The college has enjoyed a long relationship with the team at Avolites, and for several years, the college's main performance space has used an Avo Diamond III lighting console. The links been recently strengthened further with the appointment of Chris West - a recent graduate - as Training Manager in May 2000.
The college's display on Stand C4 will show photographs of recent productions, and Antonia Kennell, a lecturer in Stage Management, will be on hand to answer any questions about the College and its courses.
