Metropolis Lighting, based in South Buckinghamshire and run by lighting director David Hurley, specialise in designing and directing lighting for television.
David first came into contact with Avolites four years ago when he bought his first Pearl console and Graphic Tablet. He has been a fan ever since! He has recently continued along the Avo road with the purchase of 72 ways of new Avolites ART dimming. He has custom configured his ART modules into 3 x 24 way racks for maximum flexibility and to enable access into the most awkward and confined spaces – an idea prompted by the experience of many such encounters! David chose Avolites ART dimmers because the spec was exactly what he wanted for the demanding television environment. He states that Avolites have been most helpful in designing the dimmers to his specific requirements, and furthermore also have a long history in the manufacture of robust and reliable dimmers. His favourite ART features include the slow rise time chokes - which reduce filament noise – an essential requirement in the television lighting. The 100 per cent duty cycle is also a major advantage, enabling the dimmers to be run constantly at full power without overheating. Other pluses are a 16 Amp rating per channel, low fan noise and no interference problems. One of the first outings for David’s new dimmers was the Sky Box Office OB for the recent Spice Girls gigs at Wembley. Metropolis lit the Sky studio for the station’s show, presented by Danni Behr, featuring guest interviews and comments. It was part of a live broadcast from the event.
