Dust off those Winter blues in the run up to Spring. This season we take
a peek at skiing eggs-travaganza Varsity ’09 followed
by Masters of Dirt who a short while ago leapt into
action for 2010. We also go ‘mad’ as a march hare and catch up with the

Newly formed lighting, rigging and consultancy company, Live Technical
Services Ltd. recently participated in 2009’s Varsity, Oxford and
Cambridge University ski trip in Tignes; a sell out event which takes
place for its crowd of 2,500 strong students. Directors Tim Smith and
Howie Clark soon found the Power Cube and Pearl Expert made for the
perfect package to provide a complete lighting solution for their one
man band as only Tim was allowed on site.

Fans of alternative music were in for a treat this January as the
Roundhouse, Camden, played host to this years Reverb Festival. With many
genre busting acts and collaborations, our Avo highlights were Beggars
Opera: Reborn and Zic Zazou which, on both counts, proved to be an
inarguably spectacular and eccentric series of shows. The lighting
fixtures, supplied by PRG, were controlled by the in-house Pearl Expert.

Pete Hosier of Big Ant Productions, recently completed a suitably insane UK
tour with Madness while operating an Avolites D4 Vision. The tour lasted a
two month stretch over the winter season, bringing an end to a year which
marked the bands incredible 30th anniversary. The tour took place at a
mixture of Arenas throughout England and Ireland, culminating in Edinburgh
on New Years Eve.

The end of 2009 saw the hugely successful Godskitchen, Boombox Tour land on
Aussie territory after opening earlier in the year on Ukraine soil at IEC,
Kiev to a record breaking crowd of 16,000 people. The brainchild of founders
Exyzt and Production Eye International saw Simon Barrington acting as LD and
production manager, where his tool of choice was a Pearl Expert with Titan
2.0 software.

As Avolites moves forward with the new Titan software, Pearl Expert,
Expert Touch Wing and Tiger Touch it is sometimes nice to look back and
remember its humble beginnings. We received a heart warming tale from
1994. Avolites were exhibiting their first Pearl when Swedish rental
company ‘Fremlab’ paid a visit to the PLASA show.
